Berthoud Fire Protection District is an all-hazards emergency response agency covering 103 square miles.  The District currently has two stations (with plans for a third) that are staffed 24/7 with three shifts working a rotating 48/96 shift schedule.  Our mission is To Serve, To Care, and To Support.  We live the mission every day for our community, its citizens, and also the members of our organization.

Our firefighters average over 350 hours of individual training annually and respond to over 2,000 calls for service out each year out of our 2 stations. 


Berthoud Fire is currently hiring for both full-time Firefighter/EMT and Reserve Firefighters.

Firefighter/EMT

Salary Range:  $71,935.00 - $92,581.00 (based on qualifications and experience)
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Work Schedule:  Firefighters respond to alarms and participate at either Berthoud Fire’s Station 61 and/or Station 62.  The Firefighter works 48/96 hour work shifts or approximately ten (10), 24-hour days a month.
Position Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check and medical evaluation
  • Possess a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) or NFPA 1582 Compliant Fit for Duty (prior to conditional offer)
  • National Registry or State of Colorado EMT – Basic Certification
  • Current CPR certification (BLS Provider)
  • State of Colorado Firefighter I Certification or IFSAC equivalent
  • State of Colorado Hazmat Operations Certification or IFSAC equivalent
  • NIMS 100, 700

Note: All certifications must remain current through the time of the conditional offer. Out-of-state and Colorado Metropolitan Certification Board certifications will be considered if they meet the reciprocity requirements per the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. 

Desirable Certification:

  • NWCG S130/190 Firefighter Type II (must obtain within one year of hire)

 
Benefit Information: 

  • Medical:  A choice of plans is available through United Healthcare.  Premiums are covered 80% by BFPD and 20% by the employee.  A health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) is offered to help offset deductibles / out of pocket expenses.
  • Dental/Vision:  Premiums are covered 100% for the employee.
  • Retirement:  Plans are offered through Fire & Police Pension Association (FPPA).  BFPD participates in the statewide defined benefit plan. For more detail, visit https://FPPAco.org/Benefits.html.  
  • Leave Time:  Employees accrue vacation and sick time upon hire in addition to 120 floating holiday hours each year

Reserve Firefighter

Salary :  $800.00/month stipend when fully certified
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Work Schedule:  Reserve Firefighters will respond to alarms and participate at either Berthoud Fire’s Station 61 and/or Station 62.  The Reserve Firefighter shall work a minimum of 36 hours per month including 3 hours of company training.
Position Minimum Requirements:
